GRAIN BULK HANDLERS ASSOCIATION SUPPORT CALLS FOR A NATIONAL INQUIRY INTO GRAIN PRICE ANOMALIES
The Grain Bulk Handlers Association today supported calls by the NFF, Grain Growers Ltd and Grain Producers Australia for a national inquiry into grain price anomalies between 2020 and 2022. “Allegedly, as much as $150/t may have been lost to growers as a result of these anomalies.”
“With successive record harvests in WA over two years about 50 million tonnes will be sold with farmers missing out on about a third of the world price.”
“Conservatively, $100 per tonne amounts to as much as $5 billion over 2 years for WA growers, approximately $1.5 million over the two years for the average grain grower.”
“Returning to Cooperative Principles is the best way of serving Grain Bulk Handlers Association, all Western Australian grain growers and the broader community.”
“These are reasons enough for the Grain Bulk Handlers Association to support a national inquiry into grain price anomalies.
